Amazon Fake Reviews

Often, there are suspicious Amazon reviews that seem to be excessively positive or have been created through a repeating algorithm. I moved to detect fake reviews on Amazon through semantic analysis in conjunction with meta data such as time, word choice, and the user who posted. I first came up with several instances that may indicate a review isn't genuine and constructed what the algorithm would look like. Then I coded the algorithm and tested the accuracy of it using statistical analysis and analyzed it based on the six qualities of code.

An AI based talent acquisition and benchmarking for job

In a recruitment industry, selecting a best CV from a particular job post within a pile of thousand CV's is quite challenging. Finding a perfect candidate for an organization who can be fit to work within organizational culture is a difficult task. In order to help the recruiters to fill these gaps we leverage the help of AI. We propose a methodology to solve these problems by matching the skill graph generated from CV and Job Post. In this report our approach is to perform the business understanding in order to justify why such problems arise and how we intend to solve these problems using natural language processing and machine learning techniques. We limit our project only to solve the problem in the domain of the computer science industry.

An Analysis of Blockchain Adoption in Supply Chains Between 2010 and 2020

In this research, the evolution of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) in supply chains has been mapped from the inception of the technology until June 2020, utilising primarily public data sources. Two hundred seventy-one blockchain projects operating in the supply chain have been analysed on parameters such as their inception dates, types of blockchain, stages reached, sectors applied to and type of organisation that founded the project. We confirm generally understood trends in the blockchain market with the creation of projects following the general hype and funding levels in the industry. We observe most activity in the Agriculture/Grocery sector and the Freight/Logistics sector. We see the shift of market interest from primarily private companies (startups) to public companies and consortia and the change in blockchain adoption from Ethereum to Hyperledger. Finally, we observe higher success and lower failure rates for Hyperledger-based projects in comparison to Ethereum-based projects.

An Economic Perspective on Predictive Maintenance of Filtration Units

This paper provides an economic perspective on the predictive maintenance of filtration units. The rise of predictive maintenance is possible due to the growing trend of industry 4.0 and the availability of inexpensive sensors. However, the adoption rate for predictive maintenance by companies remains low. The majority of companies are sticking to corrective and preventive maintenance. This is not due to a lack of information on the technical implementation of predictive maintenance, with an abundance of research papers on state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms that can be used effectively. The main issue is that most upper management has not yet been fully convinced of the idea of predictive maintenance. The economic value of the implementation has to be linked to the predictive maintenance program for better justification by the management. In this study, three machine learning models were trained to demonstrate the economic value of predictive maintenance. Data was collected from a testbed located at the Singapore University of Technology and Design. The testbed closely resembles a real-world water treatment plant. A cost-benefit analysis coupled with Monte Carlo simulation was proposed. It provided a structured approach to document potential costs and savings by implementing a predictive maintenance program. The simulation incorporated real-world risk into a financial model. Financial figures were adapted from CITIC Envirotech Ltd, a leading membrane-based integrated environmental solutions provider. Two scenarios were used to elaborate on the economic values of predictive maintenance. Overall, this study seeks to bridge the gap between technical and business domains of predictive maintenance.

An Empirical Study of In-App Advertising Issues Based on Large Scale App Review Analysis

In-app advertising closely relates to app revenue. Reckless ad integration could adversely impact app reliability and user experience, leading to loss of income. It is very challenging to balance the ad revenue and user experience for app developers. In this paper, we present a large-scale analysis on ad-related user feedback. The large user feedback data from App Store and Google Play allow us to summarize ad-related app issues comprehensively and thus provide practical ad integration strategies for developers. We first define common ad issues by manually labeling a statistically representative sample of ad-related feedback, and then build an automatic classifier to categorize ad-related feedback. We study the relations between different ad issues and user ratings to identify the ad issues poorly scored by users. We also explore the fix durations of ad issues across platforms for extracting insights into prioritizing ad issues for ad maintenance. We summarize 15 types of ad issues by manually annotating 903/36,309 ad-related user reviews. From a statistical analysis of 36,309 ad-related reviews, we find that users care most about the number of unique ads and ad display frequency during usage. Besides, users tend to give relatively lower ratings when they report the security and notification related issues. Regarding different platforms, we observe that the distributions of ad issues are significantly different between App Store and Google Play. Moreover, some ad issue types are addressed more quickly by developers than other ad issues. We believe the findings we discovered can benefit app developers towards balancing ad revenue and user experience while ensuring app reliability.

An Enhanced Geo Location Technique for Social Network Communication System

Social networks have become very popular in recent years because of the increasing large number and affordability of internet enabled gadgets such as personal computers, mobile devices and internet tablets. It has been observed that the tempo of fraud in social media these days is over alarming most especially in Nigeria. As a result of this, there is need to fortify the social network services in order to secure e-mail communication and reinforce data security. This paper advocates for an advanced and secured approach for improving communication in a social Network with the use of geo-location technique. The system was designed using an Object-Oriented software development methodology and implemented using the server-based scripting language - PHP, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and back-end with MySQL. The proposed system will help the government and security agencies fight recent security challenges in the country.

An Experience of Introducing Primary School Children to Programming using Ozobots

Algorithmic thinking is a central concept in the context of computational thinking, and it is commonly taught by computer programming. A recent trend is to introduce basic programming concepts already very early on at primary school level. There are, however, several challenges in teaching programming at this level: Schools and teachers are often neither equipped nor trained appropriately, and the best way to move from initial "unplugged" activities to creating programs on a computer are still a matter of open debate. In this paper, we describe our experience of a small INTERREG-project aiming at supporting local primary schools in introducing children to programming concepts using Ozobot robots. These robots have two distinct advantages: First, they can be programmed with and without computers, thus helping the transition from unplugged programming to programming with a computer. Second, they are small and easy to transport, even when used together with tablet computers. Although we learned in our outreach events that the use of Ozobots is not without challenges, our overall experience is positive and can hopefully support others in setting up first encounters with programming at primary schools.

An Impact Model of AI on the Principles of Justice: Encompassing the Autonomous Levels of AI Legal Reasoning

Efforts furthering the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will increasingly encompass AI Legal Reasoning (AILR) as a crucial element in the practice of law. It is argued in this research paper that the infusion of AI into existing and future legal activities and the judicial structure needs to be undertaken by mindfully observing an alignment with the core principles of justice. As such, the adoption of AI has a profound twofold possibility of either usurping the principles of justice, doing so in a Dystopian manner, and yet also capable to bolster the principles of justice, doing so in a Utopian way. By examining the principles of justice across the Levels of Autonomy (LoA) of AI Legal Reasoning, the case is made that there is an ongoing tension underlying the efforts to develop and deploy AI that can demonstrably determine the impacts and sway upon each core principle of justice and the collective set.

An Incentive-Based Mechanism for Volunteer Computing using Blockchain

The rise of fast communication media both at the core and at the edge has resulted in unprecedented numbers of sophisticated and intelligent wireless IoT devices. Tactile Internet has enabled the interaction between humans and machines within their environment to achieve revolutionized solutions both on the move and in real-time. Many applications such as intelligent autonomous self-driving, smart agriculture and industrial solutions, and self-learning multimedia content filtering and sharing have become attainable through cooperative, distributed and decentralized systems, namely, volunteer computing. This article introduces a blockchain-enabled resource sharing and service composition solution through volunteer computing. Device resource, computing, and intelligence capabilities are advertised in the environment to be made discoverable and available for sharing with the aid of blockchain technology. Incentives in the form of on-demand service availability are given to resource and service providers to ensure fair and balanced cooperative resource usage. Blockchains are formed whenever a service request is initiated with the aid of fog and mobile edge computing (MEC) devices to ensure secure communication and service delivery for the participants. Using both volunteer computing techniques and tactile internet architectures, we devise a fast and reliable service provisioning framework that relies on a reinforcement learning technique. Simulation results show that the proposed solution can achieve high reward distribution, increased number of blockchain formations, reduced delays, and balanced resource usage among participants, under the premise of high IoT device availability.
