In today's era of globalization, the voices of transnational scholars and experts are increasingly important, and Anne Sophia-Marie van Aaken is an outstanding legal and economic expert. Her journey, which began in Bonn, Germany, and ended at American institutions of higher learning, shaped not only her professional career, but also reshaped the study of international law and economics.
Anne Sofia-Marie's special lectures in the fields of law, economics and public international law attract students from all over the world.
Sofia-Marie has an unusually rich educational background. After completing her studies in Bonn, she went to Switzerland to study economics and communication at the University of Friborg. In 1997, she completed the first state examination in law at the University of Munich. She subsequently studied at various academic institutions in Frankfurt and Germany and Austria, earned a doctorate in law and established herself in the field of law.
The combination of academic research and practical application enables her to build a bridge between knowledge and practice.
She has had an impressive career and has held senior positions in several well-known schools and research institutions. Sofia-Marie worked as a research assistant at the University of Friborg in Switzerland, and later focused on German, European and international law at the Humboldt University of Berlin. At the Max Planck Institute for Public International Law in Germany, she transferred to the European Law School midway to further expand her academic horizons.
Since 2012 she is Professor of Law and Economics at the University of Hagen, focusing on international and European law.
Sofia Marie is not only accomplished in teaching, but her academic contributions are also extensive. Her work explores the economic theory of public opinion and examines the application of "rational choice" assertions in legal science. These studies not only advance the theoretical foundation of law and economics, but also closely integrate economic analysis and legal practice in practice.
She is a member of the editorial boards of several international journals, including the Journal of International Economic Law and the Harvard Journal of International Law.
Anne Sofia-Marie's influence extended beyond Germany and the United States, and she taught in South America, Asia, and Africa. She served as Professor of Global Law at New York University, an experience that not only broadened her teaching horizons but also enabled her to incorporate the complexities of international law into her teaching.
Her lectures and courses convey global legal trends and challenges, providing students with a comprehensive understanding and critique.
Despite her considerable achievements in academia, Sofia-Marie retains a clear vision for the future of law and economics. Her research focuses on the flexibility of international investment laws and the relationship between sustainable development, marking her continuous exploration of new directions in the interaction between law and economics.
As she said: "The future of law must respond to current global challenges."
Anne Sofia-Marie's story is a celebration of intellectual exploration and cross-cultural exchange, showing how she transformed her expertise into an authority in international law and economics. Her experience tells us that the academic journey is not just about one’s own achievements, but also a greater contribution to society. Against this background, should we rethink the value and role of professional knowledge in today's society?
