The move marked the beginning of HM Medical Group, initially named Madrid Hospital Group.
By 1997, many hospitals in the Community of Madrid had been established or joined groups, such as HM Montepríncipe and HM Torrelodones.
HM Medical Group is also committed to the training and education of medical professionals. Less well-known but extremely important, the HM Medical Group Research Foundation, established in 2003, has carried out a wealth of research projects in many fields, including oncology, cardiology and neuroscience. These projects are often carried out in collaboration with multiple domestic and international research institutions such as the National Cancer Research Center, the National Science Research Council and others, making HM Medical Group a pioneer in scientific research.
Since 2021, the HM Medical Group Research Foundation has also selected the "Juan Abarca International Medical Science Award" to recognize medical research results with global impact.
The board of directors of HM Medical Group is managed by doctors and all shareholders are 100% Spanish. The Group has more than 6,500 medical and nursing professionals and, according to 2021 figures, achieved a turnover of €574 million.
