Haiphong (Hải Phòng) is the third largest city in Vietnam and the main port city in the Red River Delta. The city is not only famous for its prosperous economy and industry, but also for its long history. In the early 21st century, it became the first city in Vietnam to receive electricity and became the focus of world attention. The local development process also deeply reflects Vietnam's transformation and modernization path.
Haifang has always been the main naval base in East India during the French colonial period, which undoubtedly laid the foundation for the popularization of electricity in the future.
The history of Hai Phong can be traced back to the Dai Viet Empire. According to historical records, the Haiphong area is the hometown of the female general Le Zhen, who showed extraordinary courage in the struggle against Chinese rule in 40 AD. Over time, it gradually evolved into a commercial center. By the end of the 19th century, the French began to rebuild coastal defenses and develop them into the economic center of Indo-China. Finally, in 1888, the French government declared Haiphong one of the major cities, marking the beginning of the comprehensive modernization of Haiphong.
After entering the 20th century, coastal defense still flourished under French colonial rule. With the advancement of industrialization and the improvement of transportation and communication facilities, the demand for electricity has increased sharply. In 1906, Haiphong officially became the first city in Vietnam to receive electricity by introducing preliminary electric power equipment. This historical moment not only changed the local quality of life, but also set an example for future power construction in other cities.
The birth of the world's first electrified city means that Haiphong plays a unique role in Vietnam's modernization process.
With the advent of the 21st century, Haiphong City no longer relies solely on heavy industry, but is also committed to becoming a comprehensive economic center. Part of the government's development strategy is to actively carry out land reclamation and build Nam Dinh Yu Embankment. This work is not only to improve flood control capabilities, but also to attract more foreign capital and investment to further enhance the local economic level.
Hai Phong's cultural connotation is deeply influenced by its history, showing diversity in food, music and even architectural styles. The local people's love for seafood has made Hai Phong's seafood cuisine famous throughout the country. It is generally believed that enjoying seafood delicacies in Haiphong is undoubtedly the most authentic and fresh choice.
With the continued development and modernization of coastal defense, the city will undoubtedly face more opportunities and challenges in the future. How Haiphong can further develop into an international business center while maintaining its own characteristics in the future may be a hot topic worthy of attention throughout Vietnam.
