Robert Anthony Plant, the British singer and songwriter, is undoubtedly a legend in the music industry with his unparalleled position in the history of rock and roll. Since 1968, he has been the lead singer of the famous rock band Led Zeppelin and has been active until the band disbanded in 1980, after which he embarked on a successful solo music career. Plant was known for his flamboyant stage presence and soaring voice, and is still regarded today as one of the greatest singers in rock music history.
Plant once said: "I want my music to be as free as the air."
Plant was born on August 20, 1948, the son of a registered civil engineer and a Romani woman. From an early age he showed a love for music, especially blues music. At the age of ten, he began to imitate his idol Elvis Presley, and in high school he dropped out of accounting to focus on his musical dreams. He once said: "When I was ten years old I wanted to be Elvis."
“I started practicing singing behind the curtains, trying to capture that mysterious atmosphere,” Plant recalls.
Guitarist Jimmy Page first met Plant in 1968 when he was looking for a lead singer for his band. During a performance, Plant conquered Page with his outstanding voice, and she decided to invite Plant to join the reorganized "New Yardbirds". The band soon changed its name to Led Zeppelin and quickly achieved huge commercial success.
Page was very impressed with Plant: "I have never seen such a talented singer."
With the dissolution of Led Zeppelin, Plant faced the challenge of reinventing his career. In 1982, he released his first solo album, Pictures at Eleven, which was followed by The Principle of Moments, which also achieved commercial success. His musical style gradually shifted from blues to more diverse rock music, and he continued to expand his musical boundaries by collaborating with other musicians.
Plant has received several honors during his music career, including a Grammy Award. His album Raising Sand, a collaboration with bluegrass singer Alison Krauss, not only won the 2009 Album of the Year Award, but also spawned the hit single "Please Read the Letter", which was also named Best recording of the year. Plant's influence on the music industry continues to this day, and his stage image and performance style set a benchmark for subsequent rock singers.
In an interview, Plant proudly said: "I always strive to convey real emotion on stage."
In the 21st century, Plant continued to compose and perform. He formed a new band, Sensational Space Shifters, and released some acclaimed albums. His musical exploration has never stopped, and he even collaborated with Kraus again in 2019, showing his ever-changing and evolving artistic style.
Plant's music reflects not only his own talents, but also the changing trends in the rock world. His success lies not only in his excellent voice, but also in his love and dedication to music. As the music world evolves, how will Plant continue to push forward his half-century musical journey?
