The Lost Inca City: Did Paititi Really Exist?
Paititi, this mysterious name, represents a legendary lost Inca city or a treasure utopia. Rumor has it that it is located on the east side of the Andes, hidden in the remote rainforests of southeastern Peru, northern Bolivia, or northwestern Brazil. The legend of Paititi is closely linked to the story of the Inca cultural hero Inkarri, who is said to have gone to live out his days in seclusion in the jungle of Pantiacolla after founding Q'ero and Cusco, and Paititi was his city of refuge.

In fact, the legend of Paititi has intrigued countless explorers in the area surrounding Peru. As early as 2001, Italian archaeologist Mario Polia discovered a report from the Roman Jesuit archives written by missionary Andres Lopez, which mentioned that the city Lopez had heard of was located deep in the tropical jungle. . Although Lopez never reached Paititi in person, the report still caused a stir and was widely publicized.

Several exploration documents record the possible location of Paititi and the story of his expedition, including those by Juan Álvarez Maldonado (1570), Gregorio Bolívar (1621), and Juan Recio de León (1623–27 ) and so on, all provided clues for finding Paititi. However, the existence of Paititi remains hotly debated to this day.
Between 2001 and 2003, a Finnish-Bolivian archaeological expedition visited Las Piedras in eastern Bolivia. Although they found some Inca pottery fragments, it was still unclear whether the site was actually related to the Incas. .

In 2016, French researcher Vincent Pélissier claimed to have discovered Paititi in July 2015, and provided some evidence, including the rock carvings of Pusharo as a map symbol of the city. However, the Inca origin of these rock carvings has not been verified to date.
