For example, the oxidation of ampicillin in an alkaline solution can produce azobenzene, or the purple substance violatoamin can be produced under the catalysis of certain metal salts. Anning can also produce dyes through coupling reactions. One example is the coupling reaction of phenol to produce sodium phenyl and azobenzene.
