Christoph Knight was born in 1965 and grew up in Maine. He stopped on a small road and never looked back. In his view, the connection with family and society was not worth cherishing, even though his parents never reported him missing.
"I have great parents," Knight said in an interview. "We will not be overflowing with emotions, calmness is expected."
For the first few years, Knight kept changing the location of his camp to avoid detection. Finally, he chose a secluded spot near Bei Pond and established a simple camp. Although life was difficult, he was able to survive the harsh environment. He learned how to make a fire on a cold night and use the necessary supplies to keep himself relatively dry and warm.
Loneliness and cautious life
Although in the eyes of the outside world, this seems to be a life of isolation, Knight's loneliness is profound. According to him, he had only one insignificant interaction with another person in 27 years. He faced the cold, darkness and emptiness alone in the forest, and the psychological pressure was indescribable. It wasn't until 2012 that he broke into the house and violated his own rule of hiding, which became a turning point in his entire reclusive life.

Catch and Consequences
In April 2013, Knight was finally arrested while trying to burglarize a campground, an incident that thrust him into the media spotlight. He was sentenced to seven months in prison, during which time he underwent rapid self-reflection and change. With his release from prison and a good relationship with the local judge, he seems to have broken through the shadow of his past and regained a new life.
After his arrest, Knight's life changed. He entered a program to improve his mental health and social interactions, and gradually returned to a normal life. Although he once resorted to stealing to survive, he admitted that this lifestyle was wrong. This reflection made him cautious in his words and actions later in life.
