MG Penetrated Power Grid Modeling

Abstract

This chapter addresses the problem of power system modeling, with emphasis on the development of aggregate microgrid (MG) models for electromechanical stability studies. It considers both deterministic and stochastic models for distribution and transmission applications and introduces the concept of power system dynamic equivalencing. The chapter presents a systematic methodology for modeling distributed MGs for integration studies. This framework can be used to investigate the integration of high penetrations of distributed energy resources/MGs energy into the system. The chapter focuses of on the derivation of low‐frequency models to be used in stability studies. Developing MG equivalent models is of high importance when dealing with MGs‐integrated power system stability analysis. The equivalent model should consider uncertainties related to output power fluctuations and different operating modes of the sources.
