Abstract

Augustus (63 bce–14 ce) was Rome s first emperor. He was the key figure in bringing permanent monarchy to Rome, and also an unprecedented peace across the Mediterranean, named after him “Augustan Peace.” Centuries after his death, he was gratefully remembered, though his bloody and duplicitous rise to power was not forgotten either. \n \n \nKeywords: \n \npolitical history; \nRoman history
