Splenic rupture in cytomegalovirus infection
Abstract
A 37-year-old man presented to the Emergency Department with acute abdominal pain and symptomatic hypotension, with a blood pressure on admission of 60/33 mm Hg. His blood count showed hemoglobin concentration (Hb) 132 g/L, white blood cell (WBC) count 5.7 × 10/L, platelet count 222 × 10/L, neutrophils 3.0 × 10/L, and lymphocytes 2.1 × 10/L. On examination, he had tenderness to palpation of his left upper quadrant and was thought to have suffered a spontaneous splenic rupture.
