Mechanical and oral antibiotic bowel preparation versus no bowel preparation for elective colectomy (MOBILE): a multicentre, randomised, parallel, single-blinded trial. Lancet 2019; 394: 840-848. Bowel preparation did not affect the rate of surgical-site infection (7 versus 11 per cent for no preparation; P=0⋅17) or anastomotic dehiscence (4 per cent in both groups) in this study that included 396 patients.
