The Status of Liver Transplantation in the Middle East

Abstract

Middle East (ME) is an arbitrary term used to describe a region in West Asia that extends to Egypt in North Africa (Fig. 1). The estimated population in 2017 was more than 412 million. The number of elderly adults living in the ME has increased recently and is forecasted to increase even more. The ME is known for its widespread injustice both within and between countries. Although some of the least developed countries in the world, such as Yemen, are in the ME, the region also includes some of the richest, such as Qatar. The ME has a diverse ethnicity and religious background, and has experienced some very deadly wars in recent years.
