Synthetic nucleic acid nanomedicines: A Chinese perspective

Abstract

This special issue, “Synthetic Nucleic Acid Nanomedicines: a Chinese perspective”, was organized for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of The Journal Gene Medicine, which originated from a fruitful discussion with Professor Ernst Wagner, one of the Editors‐in‐Chief of the journal, at the ChinaNanoMedicine 2018 conference (15–18 October 2018, Shanghai). This meeting was very well attended by approximately 1300 participants, who presented and discussed the frontier of synthetic nanoagents for medical application. In view of our research experience in non‐viral gene delivery and nanomedicine, Professor Wagner invited us to organize this special issue by encouraging the Chinese experts to report their cutting‐edge advances with respect to synthetic nucleic acid nanomedicines. We consider it truly a great honor to take this opportunity to share the most recent advances in non‐viral gene delivery and cancer nanomedicine with the journal s wide international readership. The prime aim for the present issue is to deliver high‐impact review articles to the readership that outline the most recent progress in non‐viral gene delivery and the continuous efforts that have been made in the development of novel gene delivery vectors for disease treatment, including cancer. This issue includes 10 review articles and brief introductions to each topic are provided below.
