Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Lipofibromatous Hamartoma Involving both the Median and Ulnar Nerve
Abstract
The lipofibromatous hamartoma refers to the benign proliferation of mature adipocytes within peripheral nerves, infiltrating the endoneurium, perineurium, and epineurium, and resulting in fusiform nerve enlargement.[1,2] While mature fat infiltrates the nerve, separating the axonal bundles within the perineurium, a combination of perineural and endoneural fibrosis thickens the axonal bundles.[1] The etiology of the lesion is not clear, but they are believed to be of congenital origin or incited by nerve irritation or inflammation.[2-4].
