Pathways to Supplemental Water Resources

Abstract

This chapter looks at some of what some urban water suppliers are doing to supplement their existing water supplies with nontraditional water sources. Three supplemental water solutions are discussed: harvested rainwater, collected and stored stormwater, and municipal graywater to collect both rainwater and stormwater, while also adding green spaces to the urban environment. Urban planners are adopting green infrastructure to control minor flooding while capturing this supplemental water for nonpotable uses.
