Abstract

In addition to desired products, refineries and chemical plants also produce significant amounts of toxic, harmful and environmentally damaging organic and inorganic materials. Hence, environmental considerations are addressed during design, processing, product handling, and disposal. Various treatment, capture and disposal units are required for pollution control and abatement. In response, many labor registrations and environmental laws/regulations have been established by government agencies and authorities. In addition, lessons can be learned from major accidents occurred in the history for avoidance and precautions.
