Leading Above the Fray: Turning Challenges into Opportunities

Abstract

This chapter presents the journey of Carlos Guevara and how his life experiences and lessons contributed to his becoming the connector he envisioned, which was key to achieving the adoption of academic technology and innovation that Hostos experienced during the last decade. On this journey, Guevara shares his sources of inspiration and the principles he relies on to continuously prepare himself and his team to promote academic technology innovation and organizational change. He shares the importance of learning where we come from and absorbing the best of these experiences to build and connect bridges to achieve higher levels of productivity that lead to student success. Guevara emphasizes the importance of implementing solid frameworks to support and promote change in the culture of an organization, and to understand that a successful change requires continuing education and motivation to establish and maintain an active community of practice.
