The Use of Fuzzy DEMATEL for Urban Sustainable Development

Abstract

The ever increasing population growth particularly in urban area is one of the many challenges in implementing sustainable urban development. Evaluation on sustainable urban development requires a multiple decision approach in lieu to multiple criteria that attached to sustainable urban development. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the weight coefficients of sub-criteria of urban sustainable development using the fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (fuzzy DEMATEL). The simplified seven steps algorithm of fuzzy DEMATEL is used to propose the relative weight coefficients of fifteen sub-criteria of urban sustainable development. The result unveils that the sub-criteria ‘Health’ has the highest weight coefficient. The identification of sub-criteria in accordance with their relative weight coefficients would help the authority in prioritizing sub-criteria that may directly affected by urban development.
