Electrical Polarization Processes in Porous Rock Media in Elastic Wave Field

Abstract

In this chapter, a theory of electrical polarization processes in porous rock media in elastic wave field, sorption processes and application of ultrasonic stimulation in borehole investigations using natural polarization potentials are presented. It is shown that filtration component of the spontaneous potentials (SP) in borehole depends on mechanical stresses. Elastic vibrations also influence diffusion coefficients. On the basis of experiments with ultrasounds influencing electric fields in heterophase media there were selected signals carrying information useful from geophysical and geological view point. Experiments were carried out with ultrasounds acting on the electrical double layer to investigate the sorption properties of rocks and sorption effect contribution to the electrokinetic potential using a capillary model of the heterophase medium. Laboratory sets were designed and constructed by the author. The result showed the measurable effect of ultrasound pressure on SP logs.
