The Impact of Wild Fruits to a Better Life Worldwide

 

Abstract


The present chapter focuses on the importance of nutritional and bioactive ingredients of wild fruits from different continents in maintaining the health of human worldwide. A balanced healthy diet should contain sufficient proportions of the different food classes including proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals to avoid deficiencies and health problems. Additionally, the balance between oxidants and antioxidants inside the body is important to protect it from the occurrence of many diseases. Wild fruits are one of the nature’s gifts that are consumed by many indigenous people globally as source of food and in traditional medicine for their nutritional and phytochemical constituents that are sufficient enough to play big role in maintaining the human health. Based on many phytochemical, pre-clinical and clinical studies as well, utilization of wild fruits could reduce the risk of many diseases such as cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disorders.
