Joyful Solipsism: Implied Multiple Narratives in the Contemporary Novel
Abstract
While many contemporary novels tell multiple versions of their stories, many more hint that they cannot tell the true or full version of the story and, instead, indicate that the truth lies beyond their ability to convey what they mean in words. This chapter builds on the previous chapters to show that the implied arguments made by “Reflexive Double Narratives” are applicable to a wide variety of texts that do not explicitly contain multiple versions but hint that they have not been able to tell the true version.
