Experimental Studies of the Same Car Behavior in Different Pile-up Scenarios
Abstract
Pile-up accidents are frequent, especially in motorways traffic. The consequences of such accidents depend among other things on the characteristics of the car and the type of collision it is involved. Experimental study of the behavior of the same car (or car with the same characteristics) in different scenarios of multiple impact was the main goal of this paper. The paper is based on experimental research in which the same car (or same car type) was used, which was involved in various pile-up cases. The results obtained, including the damage magnitude and the acceleration values of the cars involved, allow a realistic assessment of the effects of such multiple collisions. The results obtained can be used to best estimate the behavior of a particular type of car involved in a particular accident scenario.
