Applying Critical Concepts: Clinical Governance, Quality, and Review to the Older Persons Context

Abstract

The chapter aims to demystify the rhetoric surrounding the complex critical concepts of clinical governance, quality, and review. This is achieved by exploring, explaining, and elaborating on the terms using examples from health and care practice. By identifying their relevance to the delivery of safe, compassionate, dignified, and respectful care for older people. The importance of governance, quality, and review relating to health and care organisational structures, systems and processes, regulation, policy and guidance and leadership and management are also explored. Finally, throughout the chapter we focus on identifying your individual role and responsibility for actioning these critical concepts when caring for older people. This is imperative in ensuring the principles are understood and applied to facilitate safe, quality care in your health and care setting.
