Surgical Approach: Axillary Posterior

Abstract

In C5 and C5-C6 injuries, shoulder abduction deficit is the result of suprascapular and deltoid muscles dysfunction. Nerve transfer to axillary nerve to reanimate deltoid muscle is recommended as a part of combined nerve transfer. Using posterior approach and transferring the branch to long head triceps muscle of radial nerve to anterior branch of axillary nerve is our preferred technique which is reproducible and provided satisfactory result. It is also an option in isolated axillary nerve injury management.
