Use of Stereoscopic Visualization for Perceiving Rotational Motions

Abstract

A 3D stereoscopic display is expected to be an advantageous interface for learning materials and to facilitate a viewer’s spatial recognition. To reduce the visual fatigue caused by the viewing of rotational motions while making use of the advantages of a stereoscopic display, an intermittent exposure method was considered and compared with a continuous exposure method. The effect of a 1-s exposure supplemented with a projected rotational motion was examined. The findings suggest that even a short-time exposure is effective in improving spatial recognition while remarkably reducing the visual fatigue.
