Uniportal Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Segmentectomy
Abstract
Anatomic segmentectomies are a valuable tool for the treatment of early stage lung cancer, benign tumors, or pulmonary metastases. Preoperative hook wire localization of the culprit lesion under CT-guidance and a variety of techniques for the identification of the intersegmental plane have augmented the spread of pulmonary segmentectomies. Rocco et al. were the first to report a single-port VATS approach for wedge resections [1]. Gonzalez-Rivas et al. extended the indications of the technique for lobectomies and segmentectomies [2–6]. Shih et al., in their comparative study of single versus multi-port VATS segmentectomy found no significant differences in the surgical outcome between the two approaches for the treatment early stage primary lung cancer [7].
