Forecast of Sedimentation in Tran Chau Fishing Port, Hai Phong, Vietnam

Abstract

Tran Chau fishing port is located in Cat Ba island, Hai Phong, Vietnam which becomes a smart and modern fishing port associated with tourism. Tran Chau fishing port project is guaranteed to receive the fishing capacity of Cat Ba under Decision 887 dated June 17, 2016 of the Prime Minister until 2020, orientation to 2030. According to the adjusted planning, Tran Chau fishing port will be attracting 24,000 tons of seafood through the port per year. More importantly, to complete the existing Tran Chau fishing port infrastructure to receive ships and boats of fishermen from Cat Ba fishing port and other local fishermen. Forecast of sedimentation level in the channel area and port area under the main hydrodynamic conditions in the project area before and after the construction of breakwaters and dredging the navigation channel according to the approved plan is necessary. The research used MIKE 21 HD and ST module for calculating the hydrodynamic flow and sediment movement in the channel area and the Tran Chau port during summer and winter season. Using finite element meshing method with increasing resolution from the sea to close to the shore and port area, the calculation grid of the model is divided with a total number of nodes of 8,714 and the number of elements is 18,200. The grid is finely divided navigation channel areas, port areas, and ensure accurate simulation of the basic size of the breakwater in the research area.
