Primary Assessment and Care in Maxillofacial Trauma

Abstract

The patient with maxillofacial trauma presents with serious challenges and requires the rapid assessment of injuries and institution of life-preserving therapy. It is essential to apply rapid and accurate systematic approach because the timing is crucial. This chapter highlights the correct sequence of priorities for assessment (primary and secondary surveys) and management of severely injured patients and also recognizes patients who will require transfer for definitive management.
