Care Work, Migrant Peasant Families and Discourse of Filial Piety in China | 2021
Research on Care and Filial Piety in China and Lack of ‘Localised’ Theoretical Grounding
Abstract
This chapter begins with a literature review, identifying areas in need of scholarly attention; these include the conflation of care and filial piety, low visibility of migrant peasant workers in the informal care research arena, and the lack of qualitative data. The second part of the chapter demonstrates how investigation of different theories in family care research in China led to the choice of discourse analysis for this research, more specifically Foucauldian discourse analysis.
