Application of Time-Reversal Acoustics to Medical Ultrasound Imaging

Abstract

A medical application of time-reversal acoustics is the application of time-reversal acoustics to focusing system for drug delivery. The time-reversal acoustics is an effective method of focusing acoustic energy deep inside the heterogeneous and multiple scattering media such as biological tissues. Ultrasound-enhanced drug delivery can lead to enhanced mass transfer. The experimental procedure for time-reversal acoustics with the convection-enhanced delivery for drug delivery is described. The experimental results are given. The medical application of the nonlinear effects of time-reversal acoustics is provided such as for the application to blood pressure measurement in heat chamber and application to assessment of the human calcaneus.
