Damaging Factors of a Nuclear Accident at the Nuclear Submarine K-431 in the Chazhma Bay
Abstract
This article concludes a series of analytical publications on the largest nuclear accident in the history of the nuclear fleet, which occurred on August 10, 1985 on a submarine in the Chazhma Bay situated in the Primorsky Krai. The damaging factors of a thermal explosion of the nuclear reactor and their impact on people, structures, and watercraft are considered. Of note is a special feature stemming from, along with radiation, factors that are characteristic of a nuclear explosion, and estimates of their intensity are given.
