MgF2 Optical Ceramics

Abstract

Results of studies of the luminescent properties of MgF2 ceramics and MgF2 ceramics doped with tungsten trioxide synthesized in air upon exposure to a pulsed electron beam are presented. The photo- and cathodoluminescence spectra and the photoluminescence excitation spectra have been studied at 300 K both in as-prepared samples and in the samples after high-temperature annealing in air. The presence of luminescent centers of two types has been discovered: the electron color centers with the parameters similar to those in the MgF2 crystal structure and the emitting centers of the W–O–Va impurity type. The formation of the additional MgO phase in the annealed ceramics is observed.
