Water Retention Characteristics and Soil-Water Characteristic Curve Model of Weak Expansive Soil
Abstract
To investigate the water retention characteristics of weak expansive soil, the full suction range was determined for soil samples with different initial void ratios prepared according to the slurry consolidation method. Differences in water retention characteristics between samples prepared using slurry consolidation methods and those prepared using compaction in a previous study were investigated. The results indicate that the sample prepared by slurry consolidation exhibited a lower air-entry value, faster dehydration rate, and lower residual water content. Here, an equation describing volume change under suction and a soil-water characteristic curve equation characterized by saturation with volume change have been established based on the laws governing changes in suction and the Fredlund-Xing model.
