A De Novo Gastric Cancer 1 Year After Sleeve Gastrectomy—Is Bariatric Surgery a Risk Factor for Gastroesophageal Cancer Development?

Abstract

Bariatric surgeries for the treatment of morbid obesity are increasing. Bariatric surgery reduces the incidence of hormone-related malignancies, such as endometrial, breast, and colon cancers [1]. On the other hand, gastroesophageal cancer after bariatric surgery has been rarely reported over the last few years, even though obesity is one of the risk factors for gastric cancer [2]. In particular, gastric cancer after SG has only been reported a few times so far [3–13]. Herein, we report a male patient presented with advanced gastric cancer 1 year after sleeve gastrectomy (SG).
