Delayed Gastric Twisting After Gastric Band Removal: a Case Report

Abstract

The feasibility and few short-term complications of laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) turned this procedure into a safe and popular bariatric surgery in the 2000s; nevertheless, the long-term complications of the surgery decreased its popularity after a few years (1). Nowadays, LAGB accounts for only 5% of bariatric surgeries performed all over the world (2). Surgeons have reported long-term complications for LAGB in numerous patients (1, 3). Gastric twisting and obstruction related to LAGB is a rare complication for surgeons. This report presents a case of delayed gastric twisting and obstruction after gastric band removal.
