Immature Teratoma of the Ileum—a Case Report and Literature Review
Abstract
Teratomas are tumors composed of elements of bidermal or tridermal origin [1]. It can be gonadal or extragonadal and may contain mature or immature elements. Extragonadal teratomas usually occur in the mediastinum, sacrococcygeal region, retroperitoneum, etc. [2]. The mesentery and bowel are extremely rare sites of teratoma. Very few cases of mesenteric teratoma [3] and two cases of bowel teratoma have been reported [4]. Both the cases of bowel teratomas reported earlier were mature type. Here, we report a case of immature teratoma of the distal ileum.
