Fluorouracil
Abstract
Hyphaema and endophthalmitis: 2 case reports In a single-center, retrospective chart review study of 29 patients conducted between May 2016 to June 2019 in Turkey, two patients [ages and sexes not stated] were described, who developed hyphaema or endophthalmitis during treatment with fluorouracil for glaucoma [dosages and duration of treatment to reactions onset not stated; not all reaction outcomes stated]. Both the patients were diagnosed with glaucoma, for which they received subconjunctival injection of fluorouracil [5-fluroruracil] as a part of fluorouracil-augmented Xen45 implantation. During treatment, both the patients developed treatment-related complications. One among the two patients developed hyphaema postoperatively, which did not resolve with conservative treatment and required AC lavage at 1 week post-operation. One among the two patients, who had very thin conjunctiva and chronic blepharoconjunctivitis, presented with ciliary injection and hypopyon at 1 year, which was consistent with endophthalmitis. Therefore, the patient was treated with unspecified intravitreal antibiotic injections. The patient showed good response towards the treatment and had stable status of glaucoma later.
