Abstract
Delayed type hypersensitivity reactions: 8 case reports In a study of patients referred to Istanbul University, Clinic of Adult Allergy and Immunology due to delayed type drug hypersensitivity reactions, 8 patients (1 man and 7 women) aged 29–64 years were described, who developed delayed type hypersensitivity reactions (DTHR) following treatment with ciprofloxacin [dosages and outcomes not stated]. The patients had a history of urinary tract infection, gastroenteritis and cystitis for which they received oral ciprofloxacin. However, after a duration of 4–24h, the patients exhibited DTHR, which was manifested as urticarial angioedema (n=1), fixed drug eruption (n=1), urticaria (n=2) and maculopapular eruption (n=4). After a duration of 6–72 months, the patients underwent diagnostic tests for DTHR. These included skin prick test, single blind placebo controlled drug provocation tests (SBPCDPT) and lymphocyte transformation test.
