New EMA/ECDC initiative for monitoring COVID-19 vaccines

Abstract

In a new initiative, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) aim to strengthen the postmarketing monitoring of COVID-19 vaccines in the EU and EEA. Increased collaboration will enable the organisation of large effectiveness and safety studies, also involving national competent authorities of the member states. Study results will support continuous assessment of vaccine benefits versus risks, and inform decision-making regarding public health strategies and vaccination policies.
