Crash Management for the Mobility of Tomorrow

Abstract

Mobility Concepts of the Future Electric mobility is currently the next big step in the development of our mobility. However, it is only one of the possibilities being investigated in current research projects. All mobility concepts of the future have in common that they require a lower weight without compromising safety. In automotive engineering, lightweight materials play a decisive role alongside conceptual lightweight design. Aluminum can make a key contribution here, as it has certain advantages over high-strength steels. Crashrelevant components are one of these areas. They provide desired and controllable strengths and ductilities through different alloy compositions for applications that require high energy absorption at the lowest possible weight, Figure 1. Constellium is a supplier of tailor-made aluminum alloys and vehicle components for Crash Management Systems (CMS). The company develops specific solutions with its customers. Aluminum always competes with low-cost steel solutions established by OEMs. Function integration, very good specific properties and recyclability are strong arguments, Figure 2.
