Coating solution with high photocatalytic activity on ceramic surfaces at low temperature

Abstract

In this study, photocatalytic coatings have been prepared by the sol-gel method and applied by spraying on glazed ceramic tiles. This coating has been applied on the tile surface at 400\xa0°C as double firing for 1\xa0h. At this temperature, the coating holds on the surface stronger and at the same time, the anatase form has not been transformed. The coating composition prepared for production scale and the solution were applied in the tile production line. The structural and morphological properties of the coated tiles were investigated and all results were compared with the uncoated tiles. The photocatalytic performance was carried out by the decomposition of methylene blue solution under UV light irradiation. This coating exhibits extremely high photocatalytic activity and it has been taken to production.
