Role of the Physician in the Blood Center

Abstract

Abstract Physicians play a central role in blood center management with both direct and indirect responsibilities. Responsibility areas impact collection, manufacturing, storage, and distribution of biologics (cellular therapies and blood components), and, in some cases, infectious disease testing, reference laboratories, therapeutics (apheresis, cell salvage), and research. This role acts as the advocate for donors and recipients by ensuring both patient and donor safety.
