Magnetic Nanocomposite Adsorbents

Abstract

Abstract Recently, the problems of industrial sewage discharge and crude oil leakage have brought about widespread attentions. The oil spills not only affect human health, but also cause adverse impacts to ecosystems. In the last decades, rapid progress has been made in the research of nanocomposite adsorbents for wastewater decontamination. Obviously, these are still some problems requiring improvement, such as how nanotechnology can lead to more effective adsorption techniques, does the cost of nanoadsorbents make them more attractive, etc. Magnetic nanocomposite adsorbents are promising candidates for the potential applications in the wastewater decontamination fields due to their advantages. This chapter focused on the recent advances of magnetic nanocomposite adsorbents for wastewater decontamination via typical examples. We reviewed the synthesis routes and properties of magnetic nanocomposite adsorbents by various strategies, revealed the internal relationships among nanostructure, adsorption property, and composite surface chemistry, and suggested the future development in this area. The advantages and drawbacks of magnetic nanocomposite adsorbents in these applications are also discussed in detail. Special attention was paid on the synthesis, modifications, and applications of nanotechnology in the adsorption process. We try to contribute great content to this book “Composite Nanoadsorbents.” We wish that this chapter would provide perfect knowledge for the readers about the development of magnetic nanocomposite adsorbents.
