Influence of coconut and graphite fillers on the wear and friction behavior of epoxy composites

Abstract

Abstract This chapter investigates the wear and friction behaviors of graphite and coconut shell filler epoxy composites. The study was conducted at varying sliding velocities of 1, 1.5, and 2\xa0m/s and varying applied loads of 10, 20, and 30\xa0N at a content sliding distance of 1.2\xa0km. The three types of composite pins were prepared using 5 g of graphite filler, 5 and 10 g of graphite and coconut filler, and 10 and 10 g of graphite and coconut filler. A simple hand injection machine was used to prepare the composite pins. The wear and friction tests were conducted according to the ASTM G99 standard. From the results, the incorporation of graphite and coconut fillers in epoxy composites increases the wear rate and coefficient of friction. By varying the applied load and sliding velocities, the friction coefficient and wear rate were varied.
