Sirtuins in immunometabolism

Abstract

Abstract Metabolic and immune response are intimately linked. Metabolism directs the sequential course of inflammation. Sirtuins are a family of histone deacetylases that contain seven members in mammals (SIRT1–SIRT7) and they are well-known as epigenetic and metabolic regulators. Accumulated evidence shows that sirtuins also play an important role in the regulation of inflammatory responses. In the present review, we assessed the roles of sirtuins in inflammatory reactions by regulating immune cells metabolism. Given their significant roles in the regulation of acute and chronic inflammation, sirtuins represent potential therapeutic targets in the control of inflammatory diseases.
