Advances and innovations in electrospinning technology
Abstract
Abstract Electrospinning is a convenient technique for generating a vast variety of micro-/nanofibrous structures with tremendous applications in tissue engineering, drug delivery, microelectronics, and sensing. In this chapter, we begin with describing traditional electrospinning and the factors affecting the properties of final fibrous products. Next, we introduce different electrospinning techniques, particularly those used for the fabrication of two-dimensional and three-dimensional constructs. We then highlight several notable examples of electrospinning in combination with other techniques such as microfluidics and additive manufacturing. These combinations and their innovative products are still in their infancy, although significant progresses have been achieved in the micro-/nanofabrication of fibrous structures.
