The ERCP Room

Abstract

Abstract Since its introduction, ERCP has evolved into a therapeutic procedure with many applications. In centers that perform a high volume of ERCP—and particularly, more complex procedures—a well-designed ERCP suite is crucial. Proper design and room layout will ensure adequate space for equipment and adequate workspace for the physicians and staff involved in the ERCP. In designing an ERCP suite, consideration should be given to the workspace needed by the endoscopist, trainees, nurses, anesthesiologist, radiologist, and others involved in the procedure. While the physical space and layout of the room is important, other factors can make the space more functional. Attention to ergonomics, equipment storage, radiation safety, and proximity to the scope reprocessing area and ancillary services can help facilitate a more efficient and safe performance of ERCP.
