Surgical Gynecologic Oncology

Abstract

Abstract Gynecologic oncology was defined as a subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology in 1969. Gynecologic oncologists undergo fellowship training after residency to gain additional surgical expertise, including gastrointestinal, urologic, and complex abdominal and pelvic surgery. Gynecologic oncology requires a multidisciplinary approach to treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. This chapter focuses on the surgical aspects of gynecologic oncology. Topics will include endometrial, cervical, ovarian, and vulvar carcinoma.
