Abstract

Abstract Graphene is the last known allotropy of carbon that has fascinated the scientific community with its outstanding physical, electrical, optical, and mechanical properties. This two-dimensional, atomically thin, and the strongest known material possesses immense industrial potential in the field of surface coatings. This chapter outlines the important coating properties of graphene derivatives with an up-to-date progress in the field of functional coatings. The area of graphene-based coatings covered in this chapter includes antireflection and self-cleaning action, self-lubricating, and hard coatings for wear resistance, anticorrosion, fire-retardant, antibiofouling and pollutant adsorption, and antibacterial applications.
